René and his team at G&R are the contractors we want to work with again! They took on our small bathroom remodel, with one question mark before we started and absolutely delivered, while being the most respectful and considerate people we've worked with. They removed an old chimney that had been left in the bathroom, taking up valuable space and forcing a cramped layout, and helped us maximize the square footage with a new layout so that my wife and I can now both get ready at the same time. Along the way, they helped us track down a roof leak and then address a surprise structural issue that we thought had been taken care of by a previous contractor. . . .

We really appreciated that they were totally transparent with what they found, even if it was bad news and could postpone or stop the job. The quality of work is also outstanding. Alister and Ouestin nailed every part, but really shined with the tile work. Their attention to detail really impressed us. I looked forward to seeing them when they'd show up in the mornings, putting down ram board and drop cloths everywhere they'd be working or wearing booties if they needed access to other parts of the house, and they cleaned up before leaving every single day. Any contractor should be able to deliver what they say they can and leave you confident that your concerns and questions have been answered (and that the work was actually done!), but G&R goes so far beyond that with their customer service and connections. They brought us value with their referrals, and even with the additional structural and roof repairs, came in under initial quotes from other reputable Philadelphia contractors. We have a couple other projects planned and hope that René and the rest of G&R will be available when we're ready to move forward with them.

Friends of the Tanner House is submitting this testimonial on behalf of the work of G&R Contractors who has been our primary contractor team, recovering our 1872-built National Historic Landmark rowhome from the brink of tragic collapse to approaching full, complete stabilization. They entered into the picture, recommended by leadership at the Enterprise Center, and envisioned possibilities at a time that many other contractors we engaged only could foresee despair. . . .

Their consistent, diligent, and careful work alongside our engineering team has created the context for us to be able to revitalize the Henry Ossawa Tanner House as a world-class site of heritage engagement set in North Central Philadelphia in alignment with nationally-recognized best practices in historic site preservation. They have been responsive, flexible through navigating competing concerns, and made themselves available for counsel at times that displayed a commitment to our larger mission and vision. In times where conditions required additional labor and costs, they provided thorough and timely analysis of what informed their recommendations. Beyond the work site, they have been supportive partners in raising awareness of our efforts to save the Tanner House and attended community functions that were not required for them to be present. As we finalize the Phase II Stabilization work at 2908 W.
